in my ideal world, i start every week with a trip to the grocery store.
shortly after we moved to houston an HEB opened near us.
adelaide and i would spend way too long there every week.
we would order a grilled cheese sandwich (with tomatoes on half) and split it.
we would sit in the food court area dining together.
then i would linger over fresh produce as she chowed on cheerios.
it was a haven to me,
somewhere familiar to go when everything else seemed much too new.
i had shopped at HEB in austin too.
i knew what to expect on each aisle.
i loved going on a date with adelaide there every monday.
it was a blessing to have this constant.

after sweet baby graham joined us,
it took many months to successfully pick up this routine up again.
when i finally made it there again,
gone were the days of lingering in the grocery store.
it was an in-and-out, see-how-fast-we-can-go-before-somebody melts kind of mission.
that is until recently,
i'm excited to announce we are in another season of grocery store cruising.
we now start our weekly trip by ordering two grilled cheese sandwiches (one with tomatoes).
there are two munchkins that share the front seat of the grocery cart as we eat our lunch.
every once in awhile when i'm feeling strong they even get to sit in a (heavy) race car cart.
on our last grocery store date an older couple was leaving as we arrived.
the man stopped to say hello to the kids.
he asked adelaide if she kisses her daddy when he comes home from work, and she said, "yes!"
he then turned to me and said in the sweetest voice,
"can i tell you something? it goes so fast. make sure you kiss them lots everyday too."

it never hurts to be reminded to do so though.

*on the same trip another passerby alarmingly told me my daughter was trying to choke my son.
i assured him that is simply the way they hug.

I just burst into tears from an HEB post!
What???
Hormones much? :)
oh heb how i miss thee. once the mcdonalds drive thru person told me my daughter was trying to eat paper (i handed back an envelope or something to keep her entertained.) don't worry i was only getting a diet coke...i wasn't ordering a big mac.
Oh my goodness. What a sweet story. That reminds me of things like that I used to do with my daughter (who is now 12). I miss those times so much.
Thanks for posting what you did :)
Have a great day!
Yeah for HEB. That one is sooo much fun that I have to limit myself when I go in (and Scott is not allowed to go with me because we end up with way too many fun things!)
So sweet! I love grocery days that go well and end well. There really is something neat about sharing that time with your kids...when they're not melting down because they want fruit snacks and you told them no :)
So cute! I love those little munchkins. And sometime, I'm going to try the grilled cheese with tomatoes, yummy!
They are just so precious! I love it when those sweet hugging moments happen out of the blue!
SO precious!! They are darling...and I'm glad you could get back into your routine you love so much!
I've never been to an HEB, but this reminds me of my weekly trip to Sam's with Amelia. We love it right now especially - all of the Christmas stuff is out!! And there's $1.oo hot dogs and pizza. Good times.
Those babies of yours are so stinkin' sweet.
