THANKSGIVING TIDBITS...

there is a 4.75 year old at my house that rivals my level of excitement
for each and every celebratory opportunity and touch of holiday decor.

mom! did you notice these kleenexes look like they have leaves on the box!
it's perfect for thanksgiving and fall.

hey mom! these crackers look like leaves.
well adelaide, i think they are supposed to be snowflakes.
we can just pretend they are leaves when we eat them until after thanksgiving.
then they can be snowflakes next!

and those are just examples from today.

although i am thankful for so much,
too often thanksgiving gets lost in the shuffle between halloween and christmas at our house.

here are a few simple ways we have enjoyed it this year...
TURKEY CRAFT
we all loved this homework assignment adelaide had
to make this decoration for her thanksgiving feast at school.
all it took was long paint chips, toilet paper rolls, googly eyes, paint, and glue.
she did some cutting practice to round the top of the feathers.
graham pretended he had the same homework
(his is on the left, hers is on the right).

GRATITUDE JOURNAL
so glad my friend kristin's friend kristin shared this great idea last year.
i ordered the journal (any one would work)
and although we only fill out a few pages each year,
i'm looking forward to adding to it over the years
and smiling at past answers of gratitude.

TURKEY SUGAR COOKIES
it should tell you how many candy corns we bought before halloween,
because 3/4 in our family eat them every chance we get
and there is still a bowl full on the counter.
so this fun idea was the perfect way to use some of them.
i made my favorite sugar cookie dough, cut it into circles, and baked.
once they cooled i used squeezable icing and sprinkles to add details
while the kids added the candy corn feathers
to a row of icing on the top of each cookie.

happy thanksgiving from our house to yours!

I have plans for our house to make turkey cookies tomorrow, but had to go to 5 different stores to find candy corn because our house ate it all before realizing we needed it for a project. Someone needs to remind the stores to not get rid of Thanksgiving/fall baking items before the holiday actually occurs. Can't wait to see how our little turkeys do tomorrow!
