that mom might justify this ridiculous behavior by:
a) thinking ridiculous thoughts about how madame alexander dolls in happy meals may only happen once a childhood.
b) thinking what great props these will be while she tells classic stories to her kids again and again.
(but then she starts the storytelling to her toddler only to remember mid-stories that some classics are actually rather creepy. children who excitedly encounter a house made of candy, only to have their sugar high interrupted by a cannibal? a grandma stuck in the belly of a wolf? need i go on?)
c) and what about the fact that adelaide formed a bond with madame alexander dolls from an early age? her "baby julie" was one of her first friends. when you consider the full-sized dolls cost much more than the price of a meal, these little versions seem like too good of a deal to pass up. congratulations mcdonalds, your marketing worked on me.
so we have a few new pint-sized friends at our house. whenever we see the doll below evan says, "hansel, he's so hot right now!" ( in a perfect derek zoolander voice.) this drives adelaide crazy as she cannot figure out why we think hansel is hot in our air conditioned house. she responds every time by saying, "daddy, you MUST be teasing because HANSEL IS NOT HOT right now!"
yes, it's true that adelaide loves playing with these toys, but let me tell you who has really benefited from the frequent trips to mcdonalds- graham. baby g had fallen off the charts for his weight. our pediatrician is not that worried, but she did suggest giving him a little more substantial foods with every meal. i'm sure chicken nuggets are exactly what she had in mind.
one afternoon as i was getting our drinks ready for a mickey d's picnic lunch, graham did an amazing bumbo lunge maneuver and successfully plucked the chicken strip right out of my snack wrap. he wasted no time at all, and began to gnaw on it. i think it's safe to say somebody else likes mcdonalds.
some times these toys are used as teethers,
other times we just sit and stare at them,

Shut up. I had no idea these even existed (I have a strange aversion to Mickey D's)...I'm going to have to get on this!! Thanks for the tip :)
You are so funny! I don't think those have hit Ukraine.
That Graham... he's a stealthy one!
Oh my goodness, I had no idea! It has been years since I purchased a Happy Meal (thankfully) but I would have been doing my share if I had known these little dolls were in there! Emma needs them! Are they still available?
Ha! We actually have a few ourselves... even ALICE! I'd gladly mail it to ya! My girls haven't really played with her- just threw her in the dollhouse and there she sits... in the bathtub actually. I love this post. :) Email me your address (or I'll get it from Leah)- Alice will enjoy her new home. ;)
We had a few extra Happy Meals a month ago when they had Little Pet Shop toys. Due to all our roadtrips lately, we have Gretel and the blue Prince. Taylor isn't showing much of an interest in them so let me know if you need them and they'll be happy to take a trip to Houston.
oh my. i did think it a bit odd when you told me g was eating mcdonalds the other day, but it all makes sense now.
I hate to break it to you, but they do Madame Alexander dolls about once a year. I do think they are the cutest of all the toys that MickeyD's does though!
Beene there, done that with beannie baby happy meal toys! Looking back I cared more than the kid. Now we sell them in yard sales! Good luck getting all the ones you want to collect.
I hate McDonalds but holy cow those are cute little dolls! I want the Little Red Riding Hood and Wolf ones for Arle! I'm going to have to swallow my pride and make a trip to MD's.
And I totally agree about the creepy fairy tales...how did I miss those parts as a kid?
You can by just the toy at McDonals...or at least the one near me in Houston! They are only $1.50 per doll and I bought ALL of them after seeing how much fun my daughter was having with Hansel:) Great little gifts for a good day at school or stocking stuffers!
I think Graham likes his chicken!! So cute!! I have never heard of those dolls.
ha! i have a friend here who is just as obsessed. she hits multiple McD's around town. y'all may have me convinced that we need these at our house!
i think i am going to have to add a happy meal with a girl toy to my daily diet dr pepper order. if only i could get tose for $1.08.
oh no, from this post I might gather that you might wet your pants when I ask this "Who is madame alexander?" PLease don't hate the question asker. :) Have I been deprived of something my life and I am depriving my girls?
I have to say that those dolls are pretty creepy, especially the rodent one, so I guess they go with the creepy stories. I laughed out loud at the Adelaide/Evan exchange. Sometimes it's so much fun to not try to explain things to the little ones.
Haha! We have those characters all over our house too.
We already have 3 of them. So fun!
I have a confession to make: I LOVE Mickey D's fries!! With their sweet and sour sauce!
Searching high and low for Madame Alexandwr dolls...I love it!
no way! i was JUST about to post a similar story! i've turned into "that mom", too. i never dreamed it! my girls only want the girl dolls, and we keep being offered the boys now. apparently in dallas they're running low on the girl characters.
