moves to the LIVING ROOM.

the meaning of a living room has always been a hard concept for me to understand. we call the front room in our house (the one we don't usually "live in") the living room. the room our family typically hangs out in should probably be called the family room but we call it the den. come along as i show you around the "living room" and "den."
LIVING ROOM

our living room is located between the entry and the dining room. i have been pleased with how it has turned out so far. it is our formal living area but it's not too stuffy to just hang out in or play on the floor in here with adelaide.
this wooden rocking chair was mine when i was little. my parents cleaned it up and brought it to us on their first visit to this house. it stays in the living room and next to are a basket of seasonal books that i change out every couple of months. sometimes adelaide and i sit in here while she rocks. we read together and watch what's going on outside the window. other times she scoots in here on her own and explores the basket of books with her baby dolls.

our den is an open room with ceramic tile flooring. this is my constant work-in-progress area. i am still working hard to figure out details in this room.

this corner of the den is next to the kitchen.
berk spends most of her time lounging under this table.

in the other corner there is a bookshelf we found at the antique show.
i love having a place to display pictures of our families and a few of our favorite books too.

LIVING ROOM

my other favorite part of the living room is the photo collage over the couch. originally i had envisioned something like this in our bedroom, but now i'm glad it is a focal point in a main room. i love passing by it often and changing out the photos as new favorite snapshots are taken.

our fireplace is easy for making gas fires with just the turn of a key. i fell in love with the curved shape the first time i lay eyes on it. it is so fun to have my own mantle to decorate for each holiday.
don't look behind the couch though, that's another story!

Love the photo collage and all the different type frames! I have a strictly black and white collage in the playroom - maybe you'll see it on a future tour! :) It would be so fun to get to catch up face to face again one day . . . :)
Love your house! I want to see it in person some day. Glad you enjoyed Crave. You'll have to tell me which one was your fav.
Looks like a homey home!! You little girl is precious...Happy Mother's Day!!

It looks great. Thanks for sharing.
I love your living room! So cute and that rocking chair that was yours is adorable! I'm sure your girl loves it! I love your pictures and the way you hung them!!
Thanks for sharing! I love your floors and all the pictures!
love both rooms!! i know both are filled with tons of love and laughter!
I LOVE your picture wall!! I am a very devoted picture lover. Your home is really cute :)
Hey Annalee, I met you a couple of weeks ago at that Gala. I saw your name on Kelly's blog and guessed it was you. I was right!
I also am always confusing myself and others with which room in the living/den/family.
We have a little rocking chair from my girl hood too. If Kelly ever does "studies" for a room you'll see it.
Take care!
I love your house! It seems so refreshing and comfortable. And it seems to reflect your personality. Your kitchen is my favorite!
You've done such a nice job with your first house! We can't paint in our rent house but I hope to make it look at least half as good as yours :)
I LOVE the picture wall - so pretty :-) you have fantastic style!
The photo wall is fabulous! I am about to do something like this in my living room so I love seeing other peoples. Well done!
i keep a seasonal basket of books, too!
i love how you store toys. we have a very small house, and we don't put toys in the girls' room, so our whole house looks pretty much like the play room. i need to be on the lookout for stylish, functional storage pieces like your baskets!
oh, my favorite is the bookshelf in the den. super cute!
Very cute- love the placement of the pictures. :)
Cute blog too.. {my first time stopping by} :)

I love your rooms! I was wondering what color you painted your living room. We just bought a house and I really like your wall colors. Thanks! :)
I love the updated pic with the new rug! Where did you order that rug from? Is the rug 10 x 12? I LOVE it! Do you mind telling me how to track it down!?!
PS I love your home! You have great taste!

Ali- I hope you check back here for the answers:)
It is a Shaw brand rug that I got from a sample sale so I don't know where to direct you to get it. I'm almost sure it is a 10x12 size.
