FIRST IMPRESSIONS ON THE FIRST...

i like recurring things. tuesday night family dinner. going to the grocery store on mondays. doing laundry on mondays and thursdays. big mama's fashion friday. wearing my pink button-down shirt when i fly on an airplane. you know, those sort of things. i thought i'd bring a little piece of that to the blog. so starting today, my recurring topic will happen on the first day of each month as i share a first impression. first impressions are important. after all, "you never get a second chance to make a first impression."

for my first, "first impression on the first," i thought i'd start with my father-in-law. over this holiday break jim, ev, adelaide, and i have had a lot of time together while others have been at the hospital. but my first impression of jim obviously didn't happen this month. rewind with me to april 2003 when jim and evan picked me up at the houston airport. as i got off the plane i met evan's dad for the first time.

things i noticed immediately were...
-the height (it's hard not to notice 6'7")
-the moustache, better known as "the stand alone"
-the welcoming smile
-the way he and evan hung out together, so comfortably
-the way he asks questions

things i wish i could have known immediately...
-his passion for music can fluctuate from journey to shane and shane to beyonce within minutes
-that his love for family can bring tears to his eyes

-laughing at his own jokes can also bring tears to his eyes
-that we would enjoy cooking and trying new recipes together
-his deep loyalness, hard-workingness, and caringness

What great timing. Since I haven't been able to see Jim very much with Witt in the hospital this was a wonderful reminder of who he is and why I love him!...Karen

Sorry, I'm a little behind on my reading but I love the picture of A with Santa. We bought this little book called "Scared of Santa." It's full of pictures of kids with Santa where they are screaming and has these really funny captions underneath the pictures. The picture reminded me of this book. Random, I know.

What a great idea, you know I love all things scheduled. We love Jim, too. He was so great to us our first meeting and is always fun to be around.
