it's the first day of august.
all you teachers out there are immediately thinking
about how this is the month you will go back-to-school.
but don't worry there is still more summer fun to be had...
including a giveaway for your own personalized bulletin board words.
this is the first fall since 1984 that i won't have a "first day of school." it is bittersweet.
it is oh-so-sweet to be staying home with my favorite student ever.
but i will definitely miss smelling all the new school supplies,
labeling everything, carefully shopping for a first day of school outfit,
looking over a class list while dreaming of what the year holds,
and meeting eager, new faces.
now, let's get onto the giveaway...
while the die cut machine is an incredible invention,
i have always been partial to cutting out my own letters.
this fall i won't be frantically cutting out my own words
to hang on my classroom door, in the hallway, and on each bulletin board.
so instead i would love to cut some words out for one of you!
it's just a little way to say i am thinking of all of you accomplish
and truly admire and appreciate what you do.
here is an example of some words i did for kristin's new classroom in kansas.
i will cut the winner's letters out from whatever colors of construction paper you choose,
mount each word on white paper, then black (or other) background paper, and laminate.
you will also be able to choose small (app. 4" total height) or large (app. 6" total height).
to enter just leave a comment on this post before the school bell rings at 3pm on august 4th!
things to include in your comment entry...
*what you teach
*your favorite part of the first day of school
and if you already have something in mind, you can also let me know...
*what phrase you would choose if you win the personalized words

Allison had told me about your cute blog, and it just got even cuter with a fun giveaway!
I teach fourth grade and love the newness and excitement of the first day of school: the new outfits, backpacks, supplies, and nervous excitement of the students.
Annalee you are too sweet! What a great giveaway for the first day of school! I know that whoever wins will be VERY appreciative!
I will be teaching middle school social studies and am just experiencing my first, first day of school as a teacher! Eek! I do remember loving new clothes when I was a student though! Thanks for doing this!
Considering I already scored all of our monthly signs when you left, I feel I am stocked up. But good luck to those entering because Annalee is the best letter maker around.
What an awesome giveaway!
I teach Kindergarten, but I have no crafty skills whatsoever. I like seeing all of my students from last year as big 1st graders. I was never able to do that when I taught PreK. It's fun to watch them grow up!
I teach first grade and our school starts next MONDAY! Ah! I love the excitement in thinking that "this will be the best year yet" and feeling excited about meeting my kids. I love teaching because you get to start fresh each year.
This is such a fun idea!
I teach fourth grade, and I love getting to know my students on the first day. The rest of the year is jam-packed with stress and work, but that first day is fun and exciting!
I think we have a little connection, I teach Kindergarten!! I honestly can't think of ONE thing I like about the first day of school...I know that seeing their faces for the first time and crying cause their mom and dad left or the kid who won't quit raising his hand to answer ALL the questions the confusion the laughter and ALL THE HUGS!! I LOVE KINDER!!! I truely love it all!! Your sweet for doing this for fellow teachers!!
Hey annalee!
I am going to be teaching kindergarten and 7th grade this year... however, with my kindergarten kids I will be Ms. Gilbert and with my 7th graders I'll be Mrs. Hokanson... weird. Hope y'all are doing well and are very relieved to have the biggo exam over with! Can't wait to see you soon!
-Leslie
Annalee, this is such a cute idea. I teach 8th grade English. My favorite part of the first part of school is when it ends. Kidding. I love all of the nervous energy. The teachers and students eying each other to see what the other has to bring and what the year will be like.
I LOVE IT!!! You should open a "teacher decor store" I want to enter your contest! I would like a Mrs. Powell's Geography My favorite part of school is right before and after the bell. not b/c i dont have 25 hormanal 9th graders to control but because thats when they come by to chat and I can really get to know them :) and i love lunch. but who doesnt!
so... if you want to get people to leave you lots of comments, do a giveaway. i should write that idea down. such a cute idea, annalee!!!! you are my blogging role model :)
Question: Could you please be any cuter?
Answer: Nope
Well... I teach 7th and 8th grade Language and Literature, which is Oklahoma's way of saying English! I love seeing my kids, especially the boys, from last year to see how much they have grown over the summer. They seem so much older... I don't know what is in the summertime water! Oh, and I too plan my first day(s) of school outfits. I still lay them out the night before like I did when I was little! :)
I teach kindergarten just outside of Houston. I'm in a pretty small district that is going through a lot of changes. For the 2nd time in 3 years, my campus has achieved Recognized status. This is a big deal for anyone, as you know, but for my district, it's HUGE. We're the only campus that has been recognized in the whole district at least since I've been there, 4 years. I'm a little excited... just found out the status today.
My favorite thing about the start of a new school year is being aware of what the students know in the beginning (how they write their name, if they can even do that, how they behave, etc.) and then watching how quickly they grow in their skills. They usually adapt to their new environment so quickly. I like seeing that happen.
Your giveaway idea is so cute, and especially beneficial to those of us who are not so crafty.
Sorry about the long comment.
Coming from the halls of Pre-K Head Start my favorite parts of the first day are the twinkling eyes of excitement, the one friend that gets stuck/lost in the bathroom, and the final plop of exhaustion into the teacher chair-as this is the 1st time you sat down ALL DAY! Hmm-there might be a Sonic drink in the middle of that that washes all those 1st day jitters away.
I was just telling Michael I was going to go buy some fun bulletin board things to make me excited about going back. This is my first year to leave my precious cargo behind and I have a feeling that the tears dripping from 1st faces will not just be from the students.
i would love some cute annalee-font letters for my room! pick me, pick me!!!! (waving arms frantically) :) you do have a gift and i love lauren's sign you made for outside her door!
Those are so cute!!!
This is my first year of teaching of any sort what so ever.
Junior High History (6-8)
Junior High Girls' Basketball coach.
I am SOOO incredibly nervous to start!! AHHHH
Annalee, you are hilarious! I remember not having a first day of school last year, and I was definately sad! However, I will be teaching part-time at our church's mother's day out program this year. I will have an entire class of 4 year olds for 2 days a week and I'm scared to death! My Annalee will get to go to her toddler class and have good times with her little friends. Put my name in the drawing! Miss Lori's 4's
or would it be Mrs. Lori's 4's since I'm married?? Who knows, but those letters are ADORABLE!
Annalee you are so creative! I teach 1st grade. My favorite part about the 1st day of school is the fresh start. New students mean new faces, new schedules, new challenges, new stories and new people in my life. The first day leads to the last day when I get to admire all the students' accomplishments. I love my job.
How cute are you???? And seriously you are super talented with your letters! I'm impressed!!!
I 'almost' wish I was starting school just so you could make me some letters!!
Annalee...you are so talented. I would love to hire you to come and help me decorate my room. I am such a perfectionist, and most people don't last an hour when helping. But something tells me that we would be two peas in a pod :0) I would love to have your work hanging in my room. (and believe me...Everman classrooms need all the help they can get!)
Annalee, once a teacher always a teacher is my theory! Although I am out of the classroom I have a big event just around the corner. Wouldn't you like to make a count down for Linde Elissa Browning (yes she is keeping her names and adding)almost Giddens? No pressure, but I might be convinced to cook while you are at the lake.......
Cute idea!
Cindy
Hi Annalee,
I am a friend of Debbie Miller. I love reading your blog and watching Annalee grow up. I have also enjoyed your awesome receipes! I taught Kinder for 9 years - This will be my first year teaching second grade- So, I really do not know what to expect on the first day of school. But, I am excited to meet my new students - Thanks Donna
Mrs. Frascona
2nd Grade
YOu are too cute. I am not teaching, but I love your letters so much....maybe I could use them to decorate our house!
Hi Annalee,
We went to ACU together and I teach 2nd grade. I just had a little girl in April named Ella so I love reading about Adelaide. I don't ever comment but I read blogs all the time even though I don't have my own.
My favorite thing about the beginning of school is seeing all the eager faces ready to learn and getting to know new kids each year. I love learning about their personalities so I can incorporate that into my teaching. I love getting my room back in order making it all cozy and full of spaces for the kids to be creative in. Thanks for the contest. Your letters are too cute. Maybe we will see each other again sometime.
Rebecca (Boling) McLain :)
Did I win? :O)
Hey sweet friend....I could not resist entering your contest. You know how uncrafty I am at this stuff and I would LOVE to win some letters....still Kindergarten and Mrs. Collins. I would love to have a little piece of Annalee back at Fannin. If I don't win that is okay, I hope that you know all your hard work is appreciated:)
I almost missed this one! I'm so glad I skipped down to your blog to read before reading all 174 post of my google reader! I would love some Annalee letters to remind me of you each day I enter my room. I am teaching kindergarten again this year and my favorite part of the first day of school is most of their eagerness to start learning. I also love taking their pictures on the first day of school with their "special" clothes on. You are so special, Annalee.
10 minutes to go! What a great giveaway!! This will be my first year at teaching the Old 2's at our church preschool. Last year, I was the 1 Helper. I am sooooo excited, but nervous since it will be my first year to lead the classroom. My favorite thing about teaching this age is the LOVE that they have for their teacher. They will instantly become my little adopted 2 yr olds and welcome hugs and sitting in my lap all day! I love knowing that these young mommies have entrusted their babies to me 2 days a week.
hey! my aunt in abilene sent me your blog and i've enjoyed reading your posts! count me in for the giveaway :)
~ betsy :)
Don't know how I stumbled upon your blog, but I LOVE it!
I teach 8th grade Language Arts in east Tennessee...
My favorite part about the first day of school (today!) is when students list ten hopes and goals ("This year, I hope...") because I know that even if they don't believe or think they're possible, I know they'll grow up a lot in eighth grade!!
What a fun giveaway!!!
WOW!!! so very cute and so very nice of you to do!! i have been teaching 27 years and i love my job. the first day of school is so fun. i love to see the kids i have taught before and all the new ones. each year is a new beginning. this year i will be teaching math to 3rd and 4th graders. Math---It all ADDS up!! good luck to everyone!!! of course, i would love to win!!
