"ALL TRULY GREAT THOUGHTS ARE CONCEIVED WHILE WALKING." -Friedrich Nietzsche

i am thankful to be able to walk. some people are runners, some people are yoga lovers, some people actually know how to lift weights. i walk.

i'm glad walking counts as exercise and all, but more importantly it is so good for me mentally. there is something therapeutic about being outside and moving. don't get me wrong, i don't always want to tie up my tennis shoes and leave home. there are days that the first 15 minutes i am dragging and distracted. but sometime after the first mile my mind clears and i remember why i am so very thankful to be able to walk.

sometimes i walk by myself. it is a great time to pray, or brainstorm, or try to process all things racing through my head. sometimes i walk with someone else, and there is something incredibly pure about all conversations while walking.

2002 was the year of the white rock marathon in dallas. as great as it felt crossing that finish line, most of my memories are from the whole training experience. i loved the daily walk and talks with april- my loyal walking buddy. i loved the way hazanne and my dad would come bring me water along the way on my long walks. i loved the variety of places (everywhere from martha's vineyard to texas) i got to train throughout the months.

2006 was the year of the 1/2 marathon in austin. i absolutely treasure all the talks kristin and i had throughout that training leading up to the event. when it finally came time to walk the walk it was freezing temperatures and we slipped our way along icy roads to the finish line all the while thankful for the conversation to make the miles go by.

now it's 2008 the year of my tiniest walking buddy yet. this girl has no idea what's in store for her on our daily walks. for the time being it's mostly one-sided conversations, hearing me say "good girl" to berkeley who stops to pee every 1o feet, and being subjected to listening to me sing whatever ridiculous song is stuck in my head.

there is nothing that beats a good walk.

I cannot get over how amazing you look! I love that you go on walks with your baby and dog - it's spectacular. :) I can't wait to hear of the conversations you and Adelaide will have when she's four and walks with you in the afternoon. I am sure it will be hilarious!!

You go girl! :) I've found that Colt loves it outside and if he's fussy, he'll quiet down the minute we step out the door. Needless to say, we also go on lots of walks. I'm glad you've found something that is great for you physically and mentally!

Caroline and I have been taking the Bjorn for a few spins around the neighborhood, too. The weather has been so nice lately!

She looks so cozy in her little carrier! I love walking too. I look so forward to when I can put a baby in a stroller and walk them around. What a great way to lose the baby weight (not that you look like you even have any!)

I just posted about working out and then saw your blog about walking. Great job! I have taken Blake on one walk. One. I am counting down until the day when I get a jogging stroller so she and I can hit the road. If you can call it "hitting the road" when you walk. Whatever. You look great, by the way.

I just walked in from a walk with my baby and my pooch. My 80 lb. pooch tends to set the pace--Kan and I are just along for the fresh air. Too bad we don't live in the same neighborhood, we could stop by and pick you up!!!

What a fun tradition to start with your girl! Walking is such a great stress reliever and thinking time! Hopefully the summer won't be too hot and you girls can get all sorts of walks in!

I LOVE that you wear your Adelaide! I highly recommend the Moby Wrap for walking (and everything else really). There are so many different positions, so Halle seems to like it better. HUGS!

Just wanted to write a little note to say a huge thank you for the meat cupcakes recipe posted a couple of weeks ago! My husband requests them now, and they were also a great hit for a family in my Bible study group. I took them over when they were all sick, and their children keep requesting more "mystery muffins." I like the new name. :o) So, your post was a gift that keeps on giving...thank you.
